#25 - How to build a successful Shopify App 🚀

This email is a continuation of the previous one. You can read it by clicking here

We updated our new dashboard. Finally.

We also fixed all the major bugs. And I don't have a fever again.

Because yes, for those of your who didn't know:

We released the new dashboard. Many bugs were detected. But at the same time, I got Covid with a fever! So it was very complicated to fix every bug.

But we made it. Thanks to Ogi who managed support like a champion.

We're fine now!

And we even have a little surprise today: we reached $35,000 MRR!

So let's go with this new email! 🚀

What's going on?

The new dashboard

The new dashboard was a big update; we've been working on it for a long time in 2022.

Yup. The dashboard started early in 2022. It wasn't about building the dashboard or even designing it. No.

It was about contacting our users to understand their pain with the other one.

But today it's over. Finally. And we're happy with the result.

Now it's time to track everything. Using Mixpanel as always.

We placed a few events for the dashboard:

  • When someone clicks on a button

  • When someone uses a new feature

  • When someone clicks on a link

We added events for everything! Our goal is to know everything about our users.

These events will then allow us to track some other things like the time spent between 2 events to track the efficiency of the new dashboard.

Because remember, a feature is not an end, you have to track the performance.

The new App Store

Shopify wanted to release the new App Store today (November, 1st) but they did something else. They will progressively release the updates during the month until December, 1st.

Today, they added the category update. You can now change the categories of your Shopify Apps (And I recommend doing it because sometimes the categories chosen automatically are not relevant).

A category that is irrelevant to your app might hurt your ranking on some keywords.

Wins of the week

$35,000 MRR

We continue our growth to $500K ARR! Let's goo!

Tutorial of the week

We released a new dashboard so I'll share with you how I plan to track the efficiency: with time.

When a merchant installs your Shopify App, you want them to go to the aha moment as fast as possible.

Because the faster they get there, the higher your conversion rate will be.

So you want your dashboard and your onboarding to be so easy to understand that they can do it quickly.

And the best way to measure it is to check how much time people spend in your onboarding.

We do it using Mixpanel!

1) Create a "Funnel" on Mixpanel

2) Add your 2 events in your Funnel (to get the time difference)

3) Choose "Time to convert" as the type of funnel

Now you'll get the average time it takes to go from event 1 to event 2.

And then you want to lower that number so try to make some changes for a week and compare the results with previous week.
