#33 - Build A Successful Shopify App - How to monitor your app on the app store 🚀

This email is a continuation of the previous one. You can read it by clicking here

Well, the platform I use to send these emails (GetRevue) is shutting down. It means I will need to find a new platform and move everyone on it.

It also means we'll probably lose old emails so if you didn't read them yet, I suggest you do it right now.

I hope you had a lot of Christmas presents.

In this email I want to talk about something important for a Shopify App:

How to monitor your app in the App Store.

This is useful if you want to use the App Store as an acquisition channel.

Optimizing your app listing is an ongoing process and not a one-time action.

Because many things happen:

  • Shopify releases update

  • Other apps can change their category or listing

  • Some apps can receive more or fewer reviews

  • Merchants might search for new keywords

Basically, many factors will change the ranking on the App Store, and if you don't monitor these changes and keep everything as day 1, you'll be the victim of the algorithm instead of taking it as a strength.

Get new keywords

Once a month, go to your Google Analytics and check the terms people used to find your app. For each of these keywords:

  • Check if the keyword exists in your listing

  • Check your ranking and ask yourself: How can I rank more on it?

Check your ranking every day

Make a list of your most important keywords then use the tool on SASI that allow you to receive a daily email with your app position for those keywords.

It helps you understand what's going on.

Check your competitor's changes

A bit of benchmark is important for trends. Use a tool like appstoreanalytics to track your competitor's listing.

Each month you'll be able to check what changes they made to their listing

Track your conversion rate

Once a week, check your conversion rate on the Shopify App Store using Google Analytics.

Try to make some improvements to your listing (video, images, text) and check the impact on the conversion rate.

Once you find something that works, you can try to improve it every month instead of every week

That's it for today!

See you next week,

Mat
