BSSA #121 - What happened in Toronto

Hi!

I came back to Paris a week ago and had time to digest the information.

So many people. So many conferences. 😍

It was an overwhelming amount of information… But in a good way.

Let’s talk about it

In today’s email we’re going to talk about:

  • What happened in Toronto

  • My birthday and my future

Let’s go! 🔥

What happened in Toronto

So I attended so many events I can’t even count them. 🤷‍♂️

Let’s not count them but let’s talk about things that happened. Things I loved.

I arrived, spent 2 days resting (time difference hits hard), then I spent the evening with friends, people I’ve known for years now in this industry.

It was refreshing, we always have things to share, that aren’t even business related. And it’s awesome.

I met that guy, incredible, very successful, who had the same project as one of mine. Something I want to do soon, like the next stage of my life. I have the network, the skills, and he has the experience and the resources, so it completes perfectly. 💪

I don’t want to share too much because I don’t even know if something like that will happen, but I really appreciated the person and I think we can do great things together.

I didn’t expect to meet him. It wasn’t intended. I was just there, the right place, at the right moment.

You know, when I tell you magic happens during events, I’m not kidding. Perhaps it’s the beginning of something, who knows? ✨

I met partners, people I had never seen in real life. You create a stronger relationship, you actually put a person instead of a profile picture, but you feel like you’ve always known them. It’s really weird.

Then I had many breakfasts with people in the Shopify App ecosystem, people who are ahead of me in terms of experience and earnings, and they shared a lot of valuable information.

Like things they learned along the way, things I can implement in my business. I even discussed partnerships with some of them!

I gave a talk at Techtonic, the event by Mantle. I shared the different steps to go from $0 to $50K MRR and what was really important during the transition. 🙏

Oh and I also met this woman. Her name is Lize.

You know the story?

Lize was responsible for reviewing WideBundle when I launched it on the Shopify App Store in 2020.

You read it right. First time I met her in person. It actually started with her! So much emotion, to be honest. 😄

As if the chapter with WideBundle had come full circle, ready for the next adventure.

Something else that's crazy: people recognized me. It has already happened at some events, but not to that extent.

I’m not used to it as it only happens during specific events like this one.

Many of you also told me that you couldn’t join The Wide Event this year but you were going to attend the next one, in 2026.

I think we’ll be 300, maybe 350? I don’t know yet. 🤯

I ended that week with a lunch I organized. We were supposed to be 10. But 20 wanted to come. Finally we ended up with 25-30 people.

Well, that week was exceptional.

My birthday and my future

I just turned 28 on June 4th. 🎂

Time flies. I started WideBundle at 22 (but I was almost 23 already)

5 years.

I’m only 2 years from turning 30, and just as I was 18, I don’t know what my life will look like between 30 and 40.

I’m so curious, yet so scared. I won’t lie to you.

When I was 18, I expected to have a successful business by 25 and live my dream life with no problems.

I did build a successful company, but I never considered the downsides. And God knows how many problems we faced and continue to face. 🥶

So, today I know that in my 30s, I’ll face similar challenges. But let’s picture it:

I want to have multiple businesses, not just one. I want a portfolio because I don’t want to be bored.

I want to create amazing stuffs. And different ones.

I want SaaS businesses, but I also want a restaurant, fun ones, with cool concepts, and more. I want to do a lot of things.

I was right about my life in my 20s at 18, but I just didn’t know how I was going to make it, and I didn’t know about the downsides (would I have actually started if I had known about them?).

So let’s see if I’ll be right around 35. Hopefully yes. I know I’ll have problems because now I have the experience. But I am also sure that I’ll discover things I don’t know today.

Again, I’m curious but always scared.

Just like in business, you’re scared of what you don’t know.

This newsletter is actually different from the others.

It’s more like a self-reflection. Looking back at what I did right, what I did wrong, and how I picture my future life.

Because it’s all about vision, right?

Thanks for reading!

I’ll see you in the next email, in 14 days. Until then, take care!

Mat.
