Let’s go!

Mat’s Diary

The BFS Badge saga continues!

Last week I thought it was over.

I had 2 small points to fix so I did it.

Every submission didn’t take that long to be reviewed (a few hours).

Except for that last one.

I waited a day
 Nothing.

Another day
 Nothing.

At this point I just thought it was because we were really close to getting the badge and they were testing the app deeper.

But it wasn’t the case

I had to wait 1 full week to finally get this new email. And I wasn’t really happy.

2 more points! And on top of that:

  • The points are really quick to find (they don’t need a week to be checked)

  • The points exist since the beginning (so why do I only get them now?)

  • The points are really complicated for me to handle and involve updating the dashboard a lot (So why not give them in the beginning again? đŸ˜©

Here they are:

For the first point it should be straightforward. I have to update the colors.

I’m not happy with that because we use a dark fuschia. This is WideBundle's identity, and that is why I tell everyone: Have a strong identity.

And now I have to remove that color because “it’s too close to the red Shopify uses”.

So I have to kill the identity of WideBundle.

And to be honest with you, if someone installs my app and doesn’t see that my pink texts aren’t error
I don’t really want them because they won’t understand how to use my app.

But the biggest thing is the 2nd point.

They want me to completely change the layout of many pages.

So let me summarize:

  • A few weeks ago they asked me to change some stuff in my design

  • Then they ask me to make some other changes

  • Then they ask me to make changes to the whole stuff đŸ„¶

Would you ask to change the color of your car in the first place if you wanted them to completely change that car? đŸ«Ł

And one of the biggest things about that is that they want my settings page to match the settings page pattern.

But that pattern doesn’t even include some place for the preview!

My app absolutely needs a preview when editing the colors, font, etc

So what do I do?

I thought it was over. Seems like it isn’t

If you’re about to do BFS I must warn you, this is a nightmare!

If Shopify employees are reading this newsletter, here are some updates that should be done:

  • Send us a video for each point instead of a single screenshot because sometimes we don’t even know what you’re talking about

  • Tell us when our app is expected to be reviewed when we submit (so we don’t wait a week if it will be reviewed in 7 days)

  • Tell us immediately all the things that are wrong and start with the biggest ones, then the details. (even if it takes more time for the first review)

I visited Greece

So I just came back from Greece today!

Greece is amazing with fantastic temples 👇

But I was also able to meet other Shopify App Founders and it was great!

We talked about many things:

  • Our current problems

  • Our tips

And we made many jokes about the ecosystem 😂

You were not there for the tips, but just for you, I summarized a few takeaways from our conversations. 👀

You’ll find them in the bonus below.

BONUS

Takeaways from our Greece Meetup

We talked about many things and I learned a lot.

Some of the things have stuck in my mind and I’m sharing them with you!
