  • The Power of having a strong team

Let’s go!

Visiting Japan

I’m in Japan for 3 weeks.

New culture, new people and new Shopify App Founders to meet!

Today I had dinner with 2 app founders from Tokyo and tomorrow I will meet an organization called “App Unity”

Here are the people I met today if you’re interested: https://marketdive.net/en/

Many Shopify App Founders in Japan, since it’s not a big community, decided to create this organization to help each other and help Shopify merchants.

I think it’s a great idea and tomorrow I am having a presentation in front of them and they will do the same.

It’s a great opportunity to share different visions and ways of working and also a potential way to make new partnerships 👀

I’ve noticed that many Japanese apps are made only for Japan.

They are not translated to English sometimes because they’re made just for that market.

The idea here I want to share with you is: Meet people whenever you can.

Go back to basic to start a Shopify App

I just had this conversation.

If you’re just starting a Shopify App, forget about all the fancy stuff:

No analytics, no keywords optimization.

A good business is:

  • 1 specific target (ex: French Shopify Merchants)

  • 1 specific problem (actual problem)

  • 1 specific product (your app)

Even if your product is simple.

If you built something based on a problem, you’ll get customers, that’s how it works.

And to find your problem and the product: talk to people.

They will tell you everything and you can even reuse their words to build the first version of your app listing.

Other things come naturally.

And without the basic, doing analytics, etc, won’t even matter.

The basic is enough to create a Shopify app that makes money.

The power of having a strong team

As you scale, your main goal should be to remove yourself from daily operations.

It means:

  • Customer support

  • Technical support

  • Features development

  • Marketing actions

Usually in that order.

I was sick for 10 days recently, I couldn’t work.

Yet the business kept running because I structured it that way.

Before delegating you need to actually do the tasks yourself.

  • That’s how you know if someone is doing it well

  • That’s how you know what to expect from an employee

  • That’s how you create processes

With processes, you will tell your employees exactly how tasks should be done. Because you know exactly what works.

Thank you for reading this email! I don’t have a lot of time since I’m visiting a lot!

Don’t forget the Wide Event!

And see you in the next email!

Mat 😁
