BSSA #X - The dinner that changed everything

Hey, it’s me again

If you haven’t read the 2 previous emails I sent, go back and read them 👀

If you already did, let’s continue!

It was 2017. I joined a Facebook group about e-commerce. Everyone was talking about dropshipping.

The two guys who ran the group had made $1M in one year. It was crazy. And I was active in the group, helping people with code, offering free scripts, showing up every day.

One day, they noticed. They sent me a DM:

"Hey, we have an idea for a Shopify App. Want to talk about it?"

We met in Paris, right before their community meetup. I brought a friend because I was too nervous to go alone.

We sat down at a restaurant, I remember the table. Left side, near the window.

And they said:

“We want to build an app that shows a popup on the Shopify checkout when a user tries to leave, with a last-minute discount.”

It sounded easy to me. "That’s it? A popup? I can build that in a week."

That was my first big mistake. I judged the idea based on how long it would take to build, not the value it could bring.

We called it Exit-Counter. And people paid for it. We didn’t go through the App Store. Just posted it in their Facebook Group. We reached $1000/month.

And for the first time in my life, I made real, recurring income online.

It blew my mind.

I’ll tell you in the next email how that app eventually died, and the painful but powerful lessons that came from it.
